Biography

Twan Huys graduated from the Academy of Journalism in Tilburg in 1986. After his studies Twan went to work for Regionale Omroep Zuid in Limburg, STAD Radio Amsterdam and the VARA. From 1992 to 2010 Twan worked for NOVA in various positions. In 1999 he became a reporter in the United States, based in New York. In 2006 Twan exchanged this position for that of presenter at NOVA, succeeding Jeroen Pauw and Paul Witteman. During his time as a reporter in the US, Twan reported on the American presidential elections, the attacks in Washington and New York, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the devastation in New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina.

Upon returning to the Netherlands, an interview with Joran van der Sloot caused a lot of attention. He also made two documentaries about Lynndie England and Ayaan Hirsi Ali. These were broadcast internationally. In 2010 NOVA was replaced by Nieuwsuur. Twan remained presenter. For his interview with former lieutenant colonel Thom Karremans he received the Sonja Barend Award in 2011. In his period in the US the idea for College Tour was born. In this interview Twan interviewed various national and international celebrities together with students. Twan Huys presented the programme from the beginning in 2007 until 2018. In College Tour Twan also interviewed many famous athletes. Well-known personalities who joined Twan included Johan Cruijff, Guus Hiddink, Arjen Robben, Rico Verhoeven and Tom Dumoulin. In 2018 it was announced that Twan Huys would stop Nieuwsuur. As the successor of Humberto Tan he went to work as presenter of RTL Late Night. Twan has also written several books over the years. About his experiences in the United States he wrote the books Ik ben een New Yorker (I'm a New Yorker) and Over geluk (About Happiness). In election year 2016 Twan Huys came up with the book De Clintons, a double biography about Bill and Hillary Clinton.
