Biography

Louis van Gaal is a classic manager with modern ideas. Like many managers in football, Louis van Gaal himself has played on a professional level. He started at Ajax in 1972, wore the club colours of Sparta for many years, and ended his career at AZ in 1986. In his career as a football player, Van Gaal was not able to win any prizes. Something he definitely made up for in his career as a manager. Van Gaal started his career at AZ as an assistant and later at Ajax. When Leo Beenhakker left in 1991, the ambitious Louis van Gaal took over the lead. With a young and talented group, Van Gaal built Ajax. Soon the results followed. Ajax became National Champion three times in a row, won the UEFA Cup in 1992, where after he won the Champions League and the World Cup in 1995. In 1997 Louis van Gaal said goodbye and left for Barcelona where he was again successful with two Championships in 1998 and 1999. For a short period of time, he was the coach of The Dutch national team, a black page in Van Gaal’s career. The Netherlands did not qualify for the World Cup in 2002. Louis van Gaal led AZ in the 2008-2009 season to their first national championship since 1982 to then go to work in Germany at Bayern Munich. There too, Louis won the prizes, including the German Cup and the national championship. Furthermore, Louis van Gaal reached the final of the Champions League, which he lost to Chelsea after penalty kicks. As the national coach of the Dutch national team, Louis van Gaal reached third place during the World Cup in Brazil. After the World Cup in Brazil, he became a coach at Manchester United where he was the manager for two seasons. In his first year, he qualified for the Champions League and in the season of 2015 - 2016, he won the FA Cup.
