Joyce started her hockey career at the hockey club in Lochem, where she started as a goalkeeper at the age of twelve. Due to her enormous drive and curiosity she improved rapidly. She has been part of all national youth selections and made her debut in the Dutch National team in 2010 as youngest goalkeeper ever. Joyce is known as someone who is constantly searching for that one percent improvement. For example, she used a special shoot-out stick and she took special eye training. To make a difference as a goalkeeper, she asked a sports psychologist and a speech therapist for help. She developed herself as an important player and has been chosen as best goalkeeper of the world in 2014 and 2015. During the Olympic games in London and in Rio, she had a crucial role because of stopping several shoot-outs. In 2017, Joyce announced to stop her international career due to a chronical hip injury. She has played 117 official international matches and she won all possible international prizes. At the moment, Joyce is fully committed to her social career and several charities. In the future, Joyce would love to attend at the Olympic games, but then as a team doctor.
