We had a great time and were also very enthusiastic about Joop Alberda's speech.

Joop Alberda gained fame as coach of the Dutch men's volleyball team in the early 90s. Following the Bankras model set up by Arie Selinger, the born Frisian trained very intensively with the Dutch volleyball men in the run-up to the Olympic Games in Atlanta (1996). Joop Alberda put the whole organization down and always looked beyond the performance. It eventually led to historic Olympic Gold. In a blistering final, top favourite Italy was defeated 3-2. After his Golden Mission, Joop Alberda was approached by the NOC*NSF for the position of Technical Director. The visionary Alberda became responsible for all sports technical matters, such as innovation, guidance, facilities, and Olympic programs. His period as Technical Director (from 1997 to 2004) resulted in five successful Olympic Games. During the Sydney Games, his developed programme 'Performance 2000' yielded a record number of medals (25). Not only in the Netherlands, but also in Russia Joop Alberda appealed to his organisational and management qualities. He was asked by Guus Hiddink to put Russian football back on the map in 2008, together with him, and to outline the policy for the coming years. Joop Alberda is continuously working to improve the Dutch top sports climate. He started a platform, NL Coach, for coaches to share the knowledge between different coaches and was Technical Director of the Dutch Volleyball Association. For some time he was also responsible for the Cervélo Cycling Team and interim Technical Director of the Athletics Union. Joop Alberda was until July 2016 Technical Director of the KNZB (Swimming Federation). Today, Joop is a member of the Supervisory Board of football club AZ and interim Technical Director of the Dutch Volleyball Association.
