About Erik Scherder

Erik Scherder is one of the Netherland's most well-known and respected professors in the field of Neuropsychology. He studied physiotherapy at the end of the seventies and then worked at the Valerius clinic in Amsterdam. After Erik studied Psychology at the Free University of Amsterdam, where he obtained his PhD in Neuropsychology in 1995. In 2002 he was appointed a special professor at the aforementioned university and later on he was appointed professor of Movement Sciences at the University of Groningen. Erik was elected ‘Lecturer if the Year’ several times at the Free University and the (RuG). In 2013 Erik was invited to participate at the University of the Netherlands, which was the reason for several television programs to invite him. His first book, ‘Don’t let your brain down’ (Laat je hersenen niet zitten) appeared in 2014 and is about the influence of exercised and cognition. In 2016 Erik received the Betto Deelan Prize for his exceptional contribution to the subject of Neuropsychology. In addition, another award will follow in 2017. He will be appointed Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau. That year also saw the publication of his second book ‘Singing in the brain’, about the influence of music on our brain. In addition, Erik has been appointed member of the Dutch Sports Council on the recommendation of former Minister Bruins of the ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sports.
