About Dafne Schippers
In 2014, Dafne Schippers was named European Athlete of the Year. Earlier that year she became European Champion in the 100 and 200-meter sprint. Dafne was the first Dutch athlete ever to win a medal at a heptathlon during the World Athletics Championships. She won a bronze medal at the heptathlon during the World Championships in 2013. At the World Athletics Championships in Beijing, Dafne made history again by winning a gold medal in the 200 meters sprint and a silver medal in the 100 meters sprint. Dafne was elected Sportswoman of the Year in the Netherlands and Europe in 2015. In 2016 Dafne was all about the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Where the Netherlands was hoping for two medals it became a disappointment especially for Dafne herself. At the 200 meters, she took the silver medal where she came for gold.

Dafne Schippers has had a tremendous development, as she conquered many national youth titles at an early age. When she was seventeen she became champion of the seniors for the first time. At the age of 20, Dafne was active at the Olympic Games in London. With her relay team, she reached the finals of the 4x100 meters. Together with her teammates Kadene Vassell, Eva Lubbers, and Jamile Samuel, she walked in the series to a new national record. In the finals, they finished in sixth place. At the heptathlon in London, Dafne finished eleventh in the standings. She was one of the best six athletes in five of the seven events. In the 200 meters, she was even the fastest. During the World Championship in 2013, she won a bronze medal in the heptathlon after which she became European Champion in the 100 meters and 200 meters in 2014. After she was elected European athlete of 2014. During the FBK Games in Hengelo in May this year Dafne ran 10.94 on the 100 meters. She became the first Dutch woman ever, and the first European woman since 2004, under eleven seconds on the queen's number. During the World Athletics Championships in Beijing, she won a silver medal in the 100 meters and a gold medal in the 200 meters. Dafne was elected Sportswoman of the Year in the Netherlands and Europe in 2015. In June 2016 she became, in the Olympic Stadium of Amsterdam, European Champion in the 100-meter sprint and 4 x 100-meter sprint. The Olympic Games were not what she expected for Dafne. In the 100 meters, she didn't even reach the podium and finished the race in 5th place. All eyes were on the 200 meters where she won the silver medal. During the World Athletics Championships in London 2017, Dafne prolonged her world title in the 200 meters and got a bronze medal in the 100 meters sprint.
